WHAT WE TEACH
At The Learning House Preschool, learning is focused on the following eight content areas, which are based on the dimensions of school readiness identified by the National Education Goals Panel. HighScope's curriculum content areas are, social emotional development, physical and health, language and literacy, mathematics, creative arts, and science. Adult-child interaction plays an important role at TLH program. It is the process of working alongside children and communicating with them to encourage learning Young children approach learning in different ways, each bringing a unique set of attitudes, habits, and preferences to their interactions and explorations. It encompasses children's engagement, motivation, and participation in the classroom. By understanding how to support this area of early development, teachers can foster children's creativity, curiosity, confidence, independence, initiative, and persistence as they carry out their intentions, solve problems, and engage in a variety of learning experiences.
In the classroom, children are taught how to regulate their own social interactions. Through fun role-playing activities and appropriate modeling, the teacher demonstrates the best way to respond to arguments or new situations, giving the child the ability to act confidently and pro-socially when the actual problem arises. The result is a self-regulating classroom, in which natural social tensions are resolved mostly by the children themselves. Our classrooms are interactive environments in which hands-on exploration is not only encouraged, it is necessary. By using the mind, the body, and the senses, learning becomes an activity that engages the whole self.
Communication is key in a preschool setting. It is a process, a way of discovering things, asking questions, using language as play. They are listened to with respect, believing that their questions and observations are an opportunity to learn and search together. You’ll notice in Reggio-inspired settings that there is an emphasis on carefully displaying and documenting children’s thoughts and progression of thinking, making their thoughts visible in many different ways. The Learning House Preschool is a unique program because we have integrated different teaching philosophies to bring out the potential of your child.
